FORUM 4

Of the six (6) theories covered in this lecture, choose one (1) that most interests you. Then, do some further research on your chosen theory. The recommended way to research your theory is by going to Google Scholar (scholar.google.com) and typing the theory name into the search bar. Construct a three (3) paragraph post that covers in order: 1) why you choose the theory you did (including some reference to why you did not choose the other options), 2) a summary of the major points of the theory you chose, and 3) the thing that most resonated with you (a good way to identify this is by explaining how you might change your own communication style or habits after learning more about this theory).

Post your own response and then comment on at least two (2) of your classmates’ posts to receive full credit for this forum. As much as possible you should comment on posts that chose a DIFFERENT theory than the one that you chose.

DRAFT

The Media Review Draft assignment allows you to submit a draft so that you can receive feedback before the final deadline.

Before any major written or creative assignment, turning in a draft of your work allows you to receive feedback from your Instructor and your peers. The Media Review Draft assignment gives you the opportunity to flesh out your ideas and receive feedback in advance of the final deadline for your Media Reviews.

This assignment has three (3) parts. In the first paragraph of your draft you should introduce the media you have chosen to review by stating clearly its title, giving a brief overview of the media, and describing why the media is worthy of review. After the introduction, you should summarize the media in one (1) to two (2) paragraphs, focusing on the most important aspects, plotlines, and/or characters that the reader needs to understand before reading your analysis. The final required section for this assignment is a preliminary analysis of the media. An analysis goes beyond mere summary and provides your unique insight on what the media communicates to you.

Ultimately, by the time of the final draft of your review you will need to identify one (1) specific theory we have covered and explain how the media you chose demonstrates this theory. Because we have not yet covered all the theories, you do not have to name a theory at the draft stage. You may also choose to identify a specific theory now and change it later if you wish. In either case, be aware that by the time you turn in your final Media Review you will need to include a specific theory in your analysis.

This assignment will be submitted in Desire2Learn (D2L) in a format similar to the weekly Discussion Forums. You may type your draft in a Microsoft Word document, but you should copy and paste the text into (D2L) to best facilitate the Film Feedback assignment.

NOTE: Comments are NOT required for this assignment, as the Film Feedback assignment will give you the opportunity to give and receive feedback on your drafts.
